As the brother of Michael Dell, the creator of the computer manufacturing company Dell Inc., Adam R. Dell was born in the United States on January 14, 1970.
Prior to joining Enterprise Partners in La Jolla, California, he began his career in Austin, Texas, as a corporate lawyer with Winstead Sechrest & Minick. In Woodside, California, he then joined Crosspoint Venture Partners and in 1999 was made a partner there. He established New York City’s $100 million early-stage startup funding business Impact Venture Partners in the year 2000. 2009 saw Dell become an investment partner at Austin Ventures. By becoming a partner in 2018, Dell joined Goldman Sachs.

Dell made investments in a variety of technology firms over his career, including Hotjobs.com, which Yahoo! acquired in 2002, Ingenio, which AT&T acquired in 2007, and OpenTable.

He founded four businesses: Buzzsaw.com, Civitas Learning, Clarity Money, which Goldman Sachs acquired in 2018, and MessageOne, which Dell, Inc. purchased in 2008. He also founded Buzzsaw.com, which AutoDesk acquired in 2002.

Dell has worked as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Texas School of Law and the Business School at Columbia University.
