After Winning On BET, “Essence” Returns To The Top Of The Billboard Us Afrobeats Chart.

Days after winning the Best Collaboration prize at the 2022 BET awards, Wizkid’s song “Essence” featuring Tems and Justin Bieber has reclaimed the top place on the most recent Billboard US Afrobeats Chart.

‘Essence’ overtook Tems’ ‘Free Mind’ at the top by moving up from number two.

Wizkid won the top prize at the BET Awards, overcoming American big hitters including DJ Khaled, Lil Nas X, and Doja Cat to become the first African to do so.

The biggest Afrobeats single in the US, “Essence,” peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100. Also spending 14 weeks on the Billboard US Afrobeats Chart was a worldwide hit.

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun and who was born on July 16, 1990, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter.

The Glorious Five (5), a group he and a few of his church buddies founded, published a joint CD with him when he was 11 years old. He started recording music at that age.

In 2009, Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment and Wizkid agreed to a record contract (E.M.E). The lead song off his debut studio album, Superstar (2011), which also produced the hits “Tease Me/Bad Guys” and “Don’t Dull,” “Holla at Your Boy,” brought him into the spotlight later.
