Alexandra Swe Wagner is an American journalist and author who was born on November 27, 1977. She is the author of FutureFace: A Family Mystery, an Epic Quest, and the Secret to Belonging (One World/Random House) and co-host of The Circus on Showtime. She also works as a contributing editor for The Atlantic and a contributor for CBS News.

Alex Wagner was raised in Washington, D.C., where he was born. Before enrolling at Swarthmore College, her mother Tin Swe Thant, an immigrant from Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar (Burma), naturalized as a citizen of the United States. Her father, Carl Wagner, was of Luxembourger and Irish ancestry and was from Lansing, Iowa. He co-chaired Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign and was a well-known political consultant for the Democratic Party. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School and earned her degree in art history and literature from Brown University in 1999. Wagner was a devout Catholic growing up.

For the Center for American Progress, Wagner has served as the cultural correspondent. She served as The Fader magazine’s editor-in-chief from 2003 to 2007, where she covered music and cultural movements from all over the world. She also held the position of executive director for the Not On Our Watch Project, a group that advocates against mass murder and human rights abuses. Later, Wagner was hired by Politics Daily, an AOL News publication that covers politics, to serve as its White House correspondent. She transferred to The Huffington Post after AOL bought it. Wagner appears on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell and Countdown with Keith Olbermann as an analyst for MSNBC.

Samuel David Kass, an American political consultant, chef, and news presenter, was an assistant chef at the White House and President Barack Obama’s senior policy advisor for nutrition policy. He also worked as the executive director of Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! program. On July 29, 2015, NBC News announced Kass’ employment as a senior food analyst. She will be responsible for reporting on issues like healthy eating, food trends, and policy across all NBC News platforms.

Kass was raised in a Jewish family in the Hyde Park district of Chicago after being born there. President Obama’s daughter Malia Obama was a fifth-grader at the private, coed University of Chicago Laboratory Schools where his father, Robert, taught.

Kass proposed to MSNBC television host Alex Wagner in September 2013. Kass relocated to Brooklyn after leaving his position in the White House. In a ceremony held at the restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, New York, on August 30, 2014, Kass and Wagner exchanged vows. The First Daughters, First Lady, and President were present during the nuptials. Cy was born to Wagner and the couple in 2017. Rafael, their second child, was born on April 16, 2019, to her.
