Once upon a time, Matt Lauer and Al Roker dominated morning television. According to Today.com, the two had a great bromance, which viewers could see on the program. But things weren't always easy in their partnership.
In truth, Roker and Lauer had a tense beginning because Lauer had mispronounced Roker's name and Roker had retaliated angrily. I said, “Wow, not so easy in the big leagues, is it pretty boy?” when he booted my name. Roker told the outlet what happened.
After this, it took the two some time to develop a friendship. Roker apparently had his reservations about Lauer when his close friend Ann Curry was fired from the show and Matt was supposedly at fault, according to Radar Online.
However, as OK! Magazine reported, that the two eventually worked out their differences and began a friendship that lasted for 30 years.

The two split up when Lauer was dismissed in 2017 in the wake of claims of sexual assault, and Roker has only occasionally spoken to his former best buddy. But the estranged couple has started to mend fences after Roker revealed that he had prostate cancer in 2020.
