Asaduddin Owaisi was born on 13 May 1969, is the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen in India. He is a four-term Member of Parliament (MP) who represents the Hyderabad constituency in the Lok Sabha, India's lower house of parliament. Owaisi is a member of the Hyderabad-based All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), whose presidents are his father and grandfather. While opposed to Islamic terrorism, the party still engages in “competitive chauvinism,” according to journalist Kingshuk Nag.
In the 1994 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, Owaisi made his political debut. He trounced his nearest challenger, a candidate from the breakaway group Majlis Bachao Tehreek, by a margin of 40 thousand votes in the Charminar constituency, which his party had won since 1967. He succeeded Virasat Rasool Khan as the constituency's chosen representative. He defeated Telugu Desam Party candidate Syed Shah Noorul Haq Quadri by 93 thousand votes in the 1999 election.
