Rapper Big Zulu held his much anticipated celebrity soccer match over the weekend at AW Muller Stadium at the University of Johannesburg.

This comes after Cassper Nyovest and AKA’s high-five celebration in honor of Nyovest’s goal in a video that went viral on social media last year brought attention to the effort.

This year’s event attracted a lot of attention thanks to that publicity, as matches between the Hip-hop, Maskandi, Gqom, and Gospel genres were played in front of capacity crowds at the stadium.

A number of well-known performers attended the event, including Big Zulu, Cassper Nyovest, DJ Tira, Kid X, Stilo Magolide, Donald, Zakwe, Ma-E, Touchline Truth, and others.

When the Gospel squad defeated Maskandi in the championship game, they were declared the winners in the end. The team received R250 000 in prize money.

Big Zulu thanked the Gospel team for their support on Instagram and offered his congratulations.

One of the images showed him conversing with Nyovest, whom he was soon to encounter in the boxing ring.

“We would like to thank everyone who came yesterday and all the sponsors,” he said. “The games were very successful and also congratulations to Gospel Team for the win. Thank you very much.”

Gospel star Dumi Kroonstad, who was Player of the Tournament, added, “Thank you to organizers of @jammin2soccer @khuzani_mpungose @bigzulu_sa @ditira @drinkscore @icebogroup @hollywoodbets. Yesterday was such a special night for me.
