In Rio de Janeiro, the body of a Brazilian soap opera actor who had been missing since January was discovered in a trunk.

According to authorities, Jefferson Machado’s body was found on Monday tied up and packed into a wooden trunk that was buried six feet below the concrete floor of an outhouse in the Campo Grande area of western Rio de Janeiro.

By using the 44-year-old’s fingerprints, authorities were able to identify his body on Wednesday.

According to Brazilian news station G1, the property belongs to a lady who informed police that she had rented out the outhouse to a man who police have labeled as a suspect but have not named.

According to R7 news, Machado, who resided in Rio de Janeiro, is thought to have known the person who rented out the house where his body was discovered and was observed accessing it one month ago.

Nine people, including seven Civil Police officers, were required to take the trunk out of the hole.

According to a family attorney who spoke to local media, Machado owned the trunk and it was previously seized from his house.

‘Jefferson was coldly and brutally murdered by envious, evil and, of course, unscrupulous people,’ Cintia Hilsendeger, a friend of the family, wrote on the actor’s Instagram account.

Machado’s last acting job was in the Record TV soap opera ‘Reis,’ in 2022. He had not been seen since January 27 and was officially declared missing on February 9.

When a non-governmental organization contacted Machado’s family to inform them that his eight canines had been abandoned at his Rio de Janeiro house, they discovered that he had vanished.

Each of the canines had a tracking device; six of them are being treated at a veterinary hospital while two of them perished.

His mother Maria das Dores, 73, claimed she last spoke to Machado on January 29 and that he had driven to So Paulo to attend a job interview while lodging at a friend’s house, according to Brazilian news site Notcias do Dia.

She began to worry when she stopped receiving calls from him and only began to receive misspelled texts.

‘He also said that he dropped his cellphone in the toilet, therefore, he was unable to make a video call,’ das Dores said.

When his cloud password was altered and his location was disabled in February, the family’s concerns grew.

Das Dores claimed Machado’s absence had a negative impact on the family, including another son and a grandchild, and that she was still holding out hope that he was still alive as recently as last week.
