Bright was spared the death penalty as a result of his complete confession and plea agreement. He was given eight life sentences without the prospect of release on May 30, 2006.

In court, Bright admitted to other killings in Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Washington, and Arizona, but he eventually withdrew his admissions. He also said that he had thought of killing himself several times, but because of his religious convictions, he never actually did it.

In addition, Bright acknowledged that he had planned to use knives to stab the arresting cops in the hopes that they would shoot him, but that he had held back since his mother was present.
