Caitlyn Jenner has slammed the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for allowing Lia Thomas, a transgender NCAA swimmer, to compete in a recent 500-yard swimming event, alleging that it was unjust that the transgender NCAA swimmer competed against biological women.
The retired Olympic gold medalist in the decathlon has now urged the NCAA to step in and intervene in women's sports, something she claims they failed to do in her case.
In an article for the New York Post, she argued, “The NCAA should have done the honorable thing to safeguard these women.”
“It is their obligation to do so. Yet, the NCAA caved to the woke mob and refused to protect women, on all levels. They failed to do exactly what their bylaws mandate.”
Caitlyn Jenner's wish
Jenner, who came out as a trans woman in April 2015, went on to indicate that she is aware of the struggles that Thomas has faced because of the issue.
She explained that she wants Thomas to be able to live an authentic life, but believes the NCAA shouldn't allow the swimmer to compete against biologically-born female athletes.
“I trained countless hours and sacrificed so much of myself to compete and win at the highest level,” she added.
“For a time, I felt sports and my Olympic accomplishments defined who I was as a person. But, eventually, I was fortunate enough to learn who I am and to live my life authentically when I came out as transgender.
“That is why the case of transgender NCAA swimmer Lia Thomas has resonated so strongly with me.
“I have always said that Lia should live her life as authentically as possible. But my hope is that everyone – Lia, yes, but also biologically-born female athletes around the world – can feel that way every single day.”
