Veteran Australian sports journalist Caroline Wilson works for ESPN. She was the first of Julia and Ian Wilson’s three children, and she was born in 1960.
She writes a football column for The Age in Melbourne and also contributes to the pre-game AFL discussion on 3AW, the Nine Network’s Footy Classified, and the ABC programme Offsiders sometimes.
Wilson set a precedent for female journalists across the nation by being the first to cover Australian Rules football full-time.

She started writing about football in 1982, and in 1999 she was named The Age’s primary football writer.

Wilson’s emphasis on the business and politics of the football industry increased openness in the sport’s governance but also frequently sparked harsh criticism and occasionally vile personal attacks.

In 2010, Wilson received the Australian Sports Commission’s Lifetime Achievement Award. She was honoured with several awards, including two Walkleys in 2013, and the Graham Perkin and Harry Gordon Australian Journalist of the Year awards in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
