Claus Kreul, born on May 26, 1944, in Erlbach, Saxony, was a German football player and manager. Despite initially pursuing a career as a woodwind instrument maker, Kreul found his passion in football and began playing at BSG Traktor Erlbach.

In 1963, Kreul transferred to the Oberliga side FC Karl-Marx-Stadt and made his debut as a right defender on May 30, 1964. During his time with the club, he won the championship in 1967, although he played only nine out of the 26 matches that season.

Throughout his six seasons with FC Karl-Marx-Stadt, Kreul played in a total of 51 Oberliga matches and participated in two European-level matches.

He then moved to rivals BSG Wismut Aue at the start of the 1969–70 season, where he played until the end of his career in 1972, accumulating an additional 33 Oberliga matches and scoring two goals for FC Karl-Marx-Stadt.

Claus Kreul’s contributions to German football, both as a player and a manager, left a lasting impact on the sport. He passed away in February 2024, at the age of 79.
