Darnell Carlton popularly known by the stage name, Crunchy Black is an American rapper and hype man born on August 20, 1974 at Memphis, Tennessee in the United States.
Crunchy Black was one of the founding members of the Oscar-winning hip hop group, Three 6 Mafia. The group was able to win many awards but Black left the group due to some monetary disputes involving his desire to forward his solo career. After leaving the group, he released his debut solo album titled, On My Own, on September 19, 2006. His second album, Me To You was also released by DJ Paul and Juicy without his permission. However, the album was able to reach the 12th position on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart, 32 on the Top R&B/ Hip Hop chart and 10 on the Billboard Top Rap Album chart.
In 2013, Crunchy Black rejoined Da Mafia Six, a new version of the old group, Three 6 Mafia with DJ Paul, Lord Infamous, Koopsta Knicca and Gangsta Boo.
Crunchy Black got shot in the leg and face in Las Vegas on July 1, 2012, but recovered quickly from the wounds. In March 2014, Black was arrested on domestic violence charges and possession of cocaine in Minnesota. He was however incarcerated and freed.
