David Sassoli is dead. The former Italian reporter and television news anchor died at the age of 65. He was the president of the European Parliament.
His death was confirmed on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Sassoli died just barely a week before his end of tenure in office.
He had been battling serious illness, including pneumonia, since September and had been hospitalized multiple times, most recently on December 26.
His death, shortly after 1:15 a.m., was announced by his spokesman, Roberto Cuillo.
