Brad William Henke, a former NFL player and TV actor, passed away on Tuesday, his agent reported to numerous media sites. He was 56.

Henke’s representative, Sheree Cohen, told E! News that Henke passed away “peacefully in his sleep.” Henke’s cause of death was not disclosed. Henke found a new career in acting after retiring from professional football, making appearances in dramas like “Lost,” “Dexter,” “ER,” “Justified,” “October Road,” and “Law & Order.”

On the Netflix original series “Orange Is the New Black,” he played the corrections officer Desi Piscatella, who was his most well-known character.

The rest of the cast of the drama-comedy series Henke, in which he starred as the primary antagonist for seasons four and five, received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2016.

Henke, a Nebraska native, played football for the University of Arizona before signing with the Giants, who later released him. He was then signed in 1989 as a defensive end by the Denver Broncos. He participated in the 1990 Super Bowl, but due to injuries, he left the NFL in 1994.
