Dame Judith Olivia Dench was born on December 9, 1934, in London, England. She is recognized as one of Britain’s top actresses for her diverse work in a variety of films and television shows spanning a variety of genres, as well as her numerous stage appearances. Dench has won numerous awards in her six-decade career, including an Academy Award, a Tony Award, two Golden Globe Awards, four British Academy Television Awards, six British Academy Film Awards, and seven Olivier Awards.


Dench made her stage debut with the Old Vic Company in 1957. She received rave accolades for her performance as Sally Bowles in the musical Cabaret in 1968.
