On Thursday, Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, addressed guests at the annual Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC) in Paris on the network’s long-term prospects.
Buterin discussed the imminent “Merge,” in which Ethereum would completely switch from proof-of-work (PoW) to proof-of-stake, at the developer-focused conference (PoS).

Buterin added, “After the merge, you will be able to construct an Ethereum client that does not even know the proof-of-work phase has happened,” when discussing the long- and short-term effects of the merge.
He added that the “surge,” which will boost rollup scalability through sharding, is included in the network’s plan.

At the conclusion of this roadmap, Ethereum will be a system that is considerably more scalable, according to Buterin. Ethereum will eventually be able to handle 100,000 transactions per second.
According to him, after the Merge is finished, the protocol will be “55 percent complete” in terms of the overall evolution of the Ethereum network.

Therefore, developers have a lot of work ahead of them.
For the time being, Buterin stated that modifications to the network’s monetary policy, token supply, security architecture, and transaction inclusion procedure will be among the major changes.
