Edward Regan Murphy is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and singer. He became famous after the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live for which from 1980 to 1984.
He has worked as a stand-up comedian and ranked No. 10 on Comedy Central’s list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time.
He has been the recipient of Golden Globe Award nominations for his role in 48Hrs. (1982), Beverly Hills Cop series (1984–present), Trading Places (1983), The Nutty Professor (1996), and Dolemite Is My Name (2019).
Murphy was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2015 by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
He won his first Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series in 2020 for hosting Saturday Night Live.
Murphy has released three studio albums, including How Could It Be in 1985, So Happy in 1989, and Love’s Alright in 1993 as a singer.
