In Ehiozevbaru village in Uhunmwode LGA of Edo state, a farmer named Friday Omosigho killed himself after allegedly attacking his wife with a machete over an alleged extramarital affair.
According to DailyTrust, the deceased had accused his wife, Mercy Omosigho, of having extramarital affairs. When the farmer brought the issue up at the community meeting, some elders stepped in to help settle the family conflict. The dead allegedly stabbed his wife with a machete, stabbing her multiple times throughout the body on the farm, and then abandoned her in a pool of her own blood because he was dissatisfied with the elders' decision. According to reports, he admitted to stabbing his wife over the phone to his younger brother before returning home and consuming rat poison.
The state police command's spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the event and stated the man drank what was thought to be Sniper. He claimed that one Monday Omosigho called the Divisional Police Officer of the Egba Police Division in distress to report that his senior brother, Friday Omosigho, had killed himself by drinking Sniper after fighting with his wife over infidelity. According to Nwabuzor, the police responded quickly and transported the woman to the hospital.
“The woman, who is still alive, was taken to the hospital, where she is receiving treatment.” he said
He said that the investigation was underway and that the case had been given to the command's homicide division.
