A Former Nigerian presidential candidate, Bashir Tofa has been reported dead. He was the flagbearer for the now-defunct National Republic Convention (NRC) in the 1993 annulled election.
His death was confirmed today. According to the facts, he passed away in the early hours of Monday, January 3, 2022, at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kana after a short illness.
Magaji Galadima (Kachallan Kano), who is a close associate of Bashir announced his death in a Facebook post.
Mr Galadima wrote: “Allahu akbar, we eventually lost Alh. Bashir Tofa. May Allah grant him eternal rest.”
Tofa contested and lost a presidential election against late Chief Mashood Abiola, an election that was later annulled by General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
The politician was rumoured to have died last year but the news of his death was refuted by a family friend who said he was still alive but critically sick.
The business tycoon will be buried today in line with Islamic rites since he was a Muslim.
