Former South African footballer, Sphiwe Naval Mavimbela has sadly passed away today. The news was announced by his family members through Ethekwini Municipality.
Sphiwe Naval Mavimbela was part of the Amazulu team that won the league title in 1972 along with the late popular football star, Cedric Xulu also known as Sugar Ray.
Well, the sad passing away of Sphiwe Naval Mavimbela has once again brought old memories of their exceptional performances in the football game.
The family of Sphiwe Naval Mavimbela stated that he passed away on 10 January 2022.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of our father and grandfather Naval Sphiwe Mavimbela. He departed the land of the living on Monday, 10 January 2022 at his home in Umlazi,” they said.
Sphiwe Naval Mavimbela has been an exceptional team player in his time. He was among the top-quality players that were recruited by coach Chris Ngcobo also known as “Speak it” to save the sinking ship in 1972.
