A Ghanaian Facebook user, B.K. Aklama has expressed his candid observation on the increasing rate of prostitution in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital. He asked questions on if open prostitution in Ho is a sign of economic growth?
Sharing his opinion on Facebook, Mr.Aklama narrated his observation with one of the sex workers at Mirage, a popular area located in Voradep Village, a suburb of Ho — close to the Ho Technical University.
According to him, the ‘ashawos’ at mirage claim their price is GHS400 per night. Some other people who also have similar experiences added that there are other places such as KK House, Degash, Alinda Hotel, just to mention a few as other hotspots of prostitution. They also added that the prices can be as low as GHS50.
Some commenters wrote that the surge in prostitution is due to the development of Ho in recent times. Talk of the increase in the number of public universities, there’s now an airport, KFC is also opening a branch in the capital, among other things.
Some others also said most of the sex workers are Nigerians living in Ho. Whereas others also pointed out that it is being done by some university students to make ends meet.
