Headies Award 2022: Adekunle Gold Wins Songwriter Of The Year

was named Songwriter of the Year at the 15th Headies Awards, held on Sunday, September 4, 2022, in Atlanta, United States, after a seven-year absence.

He received the prize for his song “Sinner,” which featured American vocalist Lucky Daye and was produced by Blaize Beatz. Ajebo Hustlers, Brymo, Falana, Fireboy DML, and Omah Lay were also nominated for the award.

One of the non-voting categories is the songwriter of the year, which is granted in celebration of literary brilliance in music.

His debut single, “Sade,” earned him his first in 2015. The song received the 2015 Headies Award for “Best Alternative Song.”

However, Adekunle Gold had previously been overlooked at the Headies awards for four years in a row. Despite receiving three nominations, Adekunle Gold did not receive any awards in the previous season in 2021.
