Aaliyah died in a plane crash. The sad incident took place in Marsh Harbor, the Bahamas in August 2001. This is a day most Aaliyah fans can never forget in their lives. According to Biography.com, Aaliyah and her crew of colleagues were leaving Marsh Harbor when their plan crashed upon take-off.
The team was in Miami shooting a music video. That project became her last project in her lifetime. The project was titled ‘Rock The Boat’. Aaliyah who was 22 years old at the time and her team traveled to the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas to continue shooting scenes for the video.
How Aaliyah’s boyfriend reacted
Aaliyah’s boyfriend back then was former music executive and entrepreneur Damon Dash later revealed in an interview in 2016 that when on the plane that crashed, Aaliyah had voiced concerns about the safety of the plane and he told her not to get on it.
“She told me she was going to the Bahamas, and I was against it, like, ‘Yo, don’t go,’” Dash said.
“And then down to the last — we had the Blackberry — down to the last Blackberry that we had, before she went there she was like, ‘Yo, I don’t like that plane.’ And I was like, ‘Don’t get on it.’ And she was just like, ‘You know, I gotta do it.’ You know, it was a complicated situation, but she had to go do that video.”
