He was a Republican who chaired the United States Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2015 to 2017. From 1987 to 1994, Inhofe was the United States Representative for Oklahoma's First Congressional District, and from 1978 to 1984, he was the mayor of Tulsa.
Inhofe is well-known for his opposition to climate science. He has advocated for a constitutional amendment to prohibit same-sex marriage and proposed the Inhofe Amendment, which would make English the official language of the United States.
