Thomas John Jones Woodward, also known by his stage name Tom Jones was born on June 17, 1940 in Pontypridd, Wales.

Jones is a Welsh singer with a wide musical appeal who originally gained notoriety as a sex symbol. Jones most popular tune included “It’s Not Unusual,” “What’s New Pussycat?.

When Jones was young, he started singing at family celebrations and neighborhood events. In 1963, Jones joined the Senators, a local Welsh band, and started playing as Tommy Scott. The following year, Gordon Mills noticed him and hired him as his manager, giving Jones his stage name. His debut song, “Chills and Fever,” was quietly issued by Decca Records in 1964.

Later that year, Jones had his big break with the song “It’s Not Unusual,” which went on to become a huge hit in both tht U.K and the US.
