I Will Never Call Tinubu My President – Pastor Bakare

Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, has said that he will never refer to Bola Tinubu as his president.

After making his address on the Zoom program titled “Building the New Nigeria: The Role of the Diaspora” on Saturday, May 27, the clergyman said this during a webinar.

The 2023 elections, according to Bakare, were not up to par.

The preacher laughed and described how he addressed President Buhari when asked if he would be glad to work for the incoming administration as a “Minister of Diaspora Engagements.”

Bakare claimed that he recently informed Buhari that he sometimes referred to him as “My President” and other times as President of Nigeria.

However, he made it clear that he would never address Tinubu as “My President.”

“Last Wednesday, I visited the Glass House where he (Buhari) is currently residing due to the ongoing renovations in the main house.

I did that out of respect for the circumstances under which you came into power, riding on the principles of integrity and incorruptibility. But now, you are passing the baton to someone who lacks those values,” the clergyman stated to the participants.

He further stated, “At any public gathering, until this situation is rectified, I will refer to Asiwaju as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but I will never consider him my president.”

Bakare emphasized that he did not participate in the elections, and thus, no one can claim that he lost in the process.

Regarding his involvement in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election on June 14, 2022, where he received no votes, Bakare remarked,

“I took part in the primary, and there were numerous individuals who participated merely by withdrawing their candidacy, so there is no shame in what we have done. We spoke truth to power within seven minutes. Although I was not present when the voting took place and when I received zero votes, we proudly wear the badge of zero as a symbol of honor.”
