23 students were dismissed from Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University in Niger State due to two serious offenses.
Seven students were expelled for a variety of infractions, while 17 others were advised to leave the institution owing to poor academic performance.
This information was provided by the institution's vice chancellor, professor Abu Kasim Adamu, in a speech to journalists yesterday in Minna, ahead of the university's 4th combined convocation, which is slated to take place on Saturday, May 21.
“A total of 6,154 students will graduate on Saturday, of whom 37 will do so with a first-class diploma, 954 will receive certificates for a second-class upper division, and 3, 283 will receive certificates for a second-class lower division,” he stated.
“The Vice-Chancellor announced that a total of 1,538 students will be graduating with a 3rd class degree, and 17 others will receive a Pass grade.”
“He further disclosed that the combined Convocation includes graduands from the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions. Among them, 5,719 are undergraduate students, while 435 are pursuing Post Graduate Diploma (PGD), Masters degrees, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) qualifications.”
“The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the university's firm stance against various forms of misconduct, particularly cultism, drug abuse, and cybercrime. He warned that any student caught engaging in such activities will face immediate expulsion from the institution.”
