Gaynor Anita Motley, born on January 10, 1933, and passing away on February 21, 1999, was a notable Australian women’s basketball player. Flanagan represented the Australian women’s national basketball team during the 1957 FIBA World Championship for Women, held in Brazil.
Gaynor Flanagan was also married to Geoff Motley, an Australian rules football legend honored in the Australian Football Hall of Fame. Additionally, she was the mother of Peter Motley, who also made a name for himself in Australian football.
Geof Motley was a South Australian National Football League (SANFL) player and coach who played for Port Adelaide. Motley was born near Alberton Oval, the home ground of the Port Adelaide Football Club, and grew up a fan. In the 1992 Australia Day Honours, he was given the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for “service to Sport Administration and Australian Rules Football.”
