News of the death of Soapie actor, Israel Matseke Zulu is all over the place. This is not the first time we are hearing that he has passed away.

Israel Matseke Zulu is a popular South African actor,poet, singer and dancer best known for his role as GP in the SABC1 drama series Gaz’lam, from 2002-2005. He has chalked his name in the head of a lot of SA movie lovers.
He is someone who plays his role very well. So much so that you can’t even distinguish between his real life and the character he is playing on-screen.
Israel Matseke Zulu had a very hard life anyway. His upcoming was filled with violence and crime. According to him, he had no father figure to control him and he was raised by women — his mother, grandma and aunties.
He added that doesn’t mean there were no men leading him in life but they were as good as not available at all.
This factor made him to make the bad decisions in life such as engaging in gang fights and arm robbery which landed him in jail.
From 1988 to 1994 he was involved in criminal activities. He was arrested for the first time at the age of 14 for house breaking and theft. In 1996 he was sentenced to serve eight years in prison.
He was born in Alexandra Township and is the second-born in the family of five. He grew up aspiring to be famous.
During an interview, he said his time in prison taught him some life lesson. Lessons such as those who truly love him, what better thing he can do with his life, etc.
Israel Matseke Zulu said all these questions inspired him to do something valuable with his life.
This was the beginning of his success story.
While serving his jail term, he decided to form a theatre group called Abaqobi Drama Group.
At this time, he wrote his first play. Isreal was so good at writing.
The first play that he wrote and directed, Hayi Kabi Magenge, was a massive success. He had some of the inmates and the members of VSTC based in Alexandra.
In 1999, when he was released from prison, he got a chance to work for the Victory Sonqoba Theatre Company. This is where he had the opportunity to audition for the award-winning SABC1 drama series Yizo Yizo. This was a breakthrough for him.
He played the role of a gang leader in prison, and ended up recording a sound track with kwaito star Mandoza. People really love him as gang-leader.
He is a director for the Alexandra-based theatre group Ishoshovi.
In 2015 he had a starring role in the e.tv drama series Z’bondiwe as Jakes Masilo, Killer’s right hand man who is cold, ruthless and dangerous.
In November 2016 Israel debuted on the Mzansi Magic soapie isiBaya in the role of gangster Cyprian Gumbi, making his first appearance on Monday 28 November (Season 4, Episode 186).
It was the first time he was credited as Israel Matseke Zulu. He was formerly known as Israel Makoe.

No! He is so much alive. Following the news of his passing away, he came out with a disclaimer that he laughed it off when he heard it himself.
SA Entertainment critic, Phil Mphela, who confirmed the news, took to Twitter and wrote:
“The rumor of the passing of GP-MaOrange remains that: rumor. They are an annual occurrence without fail. Israel is very much alive, recovering at home with family, and in high spirits. He will be celebrating his birthday on the 28th of December, and maybe those wishing him dead will for once have an opportunity to wish him long life then. He saw the rumor and just laughed it off.”
