Jean-Marie Apostolidès, a French author, essayist, dramatist, theater director, and university lecturer, was born on November 27, 1943. Professor Apostolidès attended school in France and graduated with a degree in literature and social sciences from there. During his seven years of teaching in Canada.
Apostolidès also spent three years in France instructing sociology. He arrived in the US in 1980 and spent the next two decades lecturing on French play and classic literature from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, first at Harvard and later Stanford.
In addition to the philosophy of images, literary theory, and literature in French, he is interested in avant-garde artistic movements such as dada, surrealism, and situationist international.
Professor Apostolidès views the works of the past in his books as witnesses to our intellectual and emotional lives. In order to deepen our comprehension of the direction that modern society is headed in, his investigation of the distant or recent past aims to make us more receptive to the social changes that are happening now.
