Anne, Princess Royal is the second child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Anne is 17th in the line of succession to the British throne and has been Princess Royal since 1987.
She was born at Clarence House. Princess Anne was educated at Benenden School. She began taking royal duties upon growing up into her adulthood. She has an older brother Prince Charles.
She became a respected equestrian. She won one gold medal in 1971 and two silver medals in 1975 at the European Eventing Championships. In 1976, she became the first member of the British royal family to have competed in the Olympic Games.
In 1973, Princess Anne married Captain Mark Phillip. they separated in 1989 and divorced in 1992. The couple has two children, Zara and Peter Phillips, and five grandchildren.
