James Ephraim Lovelock is an independent English scientist, environmentalist, and futurist. He became most well-known for his Gaia theory, which asserts that the Earth functions as a self-regulating system. Lovelock, who has a Ph.D. in medicine, began his profession by thawing frozen materials effectively for study on rodents. His methods influenced cryonics theories (the cryopreservation of humans). He invented the electron capture detector and was the first to utilise it to determine that chlorofluorocarbons were widely present in the environment. While developing scientific tools for NASA, he had the concept for Gaia.
He created a method of climate engineering in the 2000s to reestablish algae that take in carbon dioxide. He was an active advocate for nuclear energy who emphasised the negative environmental consequences of carbon dioxide and made dire climate change warnings as a result of the greenhouse effect. He asserted that interests in fossil fuels were driving the opposition to nuclear energy. Based on the Gaia idea from the late 1970s, he authored a number of works on environmental science.
