Jaylen Smith, an 18-year-old has gained recognition after becoming the youngest black mayor of the United States.
Smith, 18, defeated Nemi Matthews Sr. in a runoff election to emerge the mayor of Earle, Arkansas.
Also, Jaylen Smith's victory comes after he received his high school diploma, less than a year later, defeating Nemi Matthews Sr. on the December 6, 2022, runoff election.
According to unofficial results from the Crittenden County Clerk's office and relayed to CNN by Patrick Robinson, a probate clerk, he defeated Nemi Matthews, the city's street and sanitation superintendent, by 235 votes to 185.
Smith announced his win on his Facebook post that reads Citizens of Earle, Arkansas, it's official!! I've recently been elected as the mayor of Earle, Arkansas.
