James Mountain Inhofe is a politician from the United States who represents Oklahoma as the senior senator of the United States. He was originally elected to this position in 1994.
Jim Inhofe is a Republican, and from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2015 to 2017 he served as the chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW). Inhofe presided over Tulsa as mayor from 1978 to 1984 in addition to serving as Oklahoma’s first congressional district’s U.S. representative from 1987 to 1994.
Inhofe has a reputation for opposing climate science. He has advocated for the Inhofe Amendment, which would declare English the official language of the United States, and backed a constitutional amendment that would outlaw same-sex unions.
Inhofe informed Tulsa World on July 15, 2021, that he intended to step down at the end of his current term, in 2027. The New York Times reported in February 2022 that Inhofe intended to step down at the conclusion of the 117th Congress.
