John Brocking was a star athlete from a young age. He attended James Madison High School in Brooklyn, where he was a standout football player and track and field athlete.

Brockington went on to play college football at Ohio State University, where he was a two-time All-American and a member of the 1968 national championship team.

Brockington’s successful college career led him to the NFL, where he was selected ninth overall by the Green Bay Packers in the 1971 draft.

Brockington immediately made an impact in his rookie season, setting an NFL rookie record with 1,105 rushing yards and earning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.

Brockington was known for his powerful running style and durability, rushing for over 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro selection in 1971, his rookie season. In 1972, he helped lead the Packers to a division title and a spot in the playoffs.
