In addition to appearing in Fox's The Preachers, Gray hosted the television program John Gray World. Gray began his career in the mid-1990s as a backup singer for Kirk Franklin before starting his work as a preacher.
When Gray first moved to Greenville, he was an associate pastor at Osteen's Lakewood Church in Houston. Gray is also the subject of the reality TV program “The Book of John Gray,” which is currently in its fourth season on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
