Alley was brought up as a Methodist, but in 1979 he joined the Church of Scientology. Alley acknowledged having a cocaine addiction at the time she joined Scientology and through Narconon, a Scientology-affiliated drug rehabilitation facility, to overcome her addiction.

Alley Kirstie had gained OT VII status as of 2007. (Operating Thetan Level 7). She paid former Scientologist Lisa Marie Presley $1.5 million for a waterfront property measuring 5,200 square feet (480 square meters) in May 2000.

The residence is located in Clearwater, Florida, the home of the Church of Scientology. In 2007, Alley gave the Church $5 million. Alley reportedly chose not to repeat her role as Rebecca Howe on any episode of Frasier because the show is focused on the world of medical psychiatrists; she was the only former Cheers regular to not do so. Alley is a member of the Church of Scientology.
