New Zealand Māori lawyer Moana Jackson is a renowned specialist in constitutional law, the Treaty of Waitangi, and international indigenous issues.

Jackson, of Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāti Porou descent, is the uncle of New Zealand politician Willie Jackson.

He is noted for serving as Director of Ngā Kaiwhakamarama I Ngā Ture, meaning the Māori Legal Service, which he co-founded in 1987.

The New Zealand lawyer attended Mayfair Primary School before proceeding to Hastings Boys’ High School.

He later enrolled at Victoria University of Wellington from where he graduated with a degree in Law and Criminology and took up the teaching of the Māori language after a short period in practice.

Subsequently, Jackson went on to further his studies in the United States where he attended Arizona State University.

Jackson who was born on October 10, 1945, in Hastings, New Zealand, unfortunately, gave up his breath on March 31, 2022, at the age of 76 in Waimana, New Zealand.
