The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reports that the body of a hiker who vanished on Mount Baldy was found early on Sunday morning. El Monte resident Lifei Huang, 22, was last seen alive on February 4, 2024 at around 2:00 p.m. when she went on a solitary hike.

After a winter snowstorm hit the area, crews searched the area for the duration of the week, but they were forced to flee due to the increasingly dangerous conditions. A resident reported to the U.S. Forest Service on Saturday that they thought they had seen Huang from a drone.

Despite their best efforts, deputies and search and rescue teams were unable to reach the scene because of the dangerous weather. Law enforcement officials confirmed that Huang’s body was not removed from the scene by an air rescue aircraft from the sheriff’s department until approximately 7:45 a.m. on Sunday.
