After a perilous week-long search, the corpse of an El Monte woman who vanished while hiking alone on Mt. Baldy was found on Sunday morning, according to officials.
As the strongest of last week’s unprecedented storms pounded Southern California on February 4, Lifei “Ada” Huang vanished from sight almost two hours into a solo walk, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
Just before midnight, Huang was reported missing, and around 2:30 a.m. on February 5, rescue personnel set out to look for her. However, officials said that “extreme” snowfall and avalanche hazards hindered their operations.
On February 7, three other hikers who had been held down by the storms the previous day on the Bear Canyon Trail were rescued.
In hopes that she would be home to celebrate the Lunar New Year, friends wrote messages on her Facebook.
Yet, Huang’s Instagram feed demonstrates that she was a seasoned traveler. She will be missed.
