Patrick Barron Hopkirk MBE, a rally driver from Northern Ireland, lived from 14 April 1933 until 21 July 2022.
He received the MBE designation in the 2016 New Year's Honours list.
Hopkirk was appointed the IAM RoadSmart Mature Drivers Ambassador at the beginning of 2016.
He was raised as a Catholic, educated at Clongowes Wood College in County Kildare from 1945 to 1949, and then attended Trinity College in Dublin from 1949 to 1953. He was born in Belfast. His dyslexia, however, set back his academic career.
They have six grandchildren: Molly, Jessica, Fenella, Amalia, Allegra, and Alexander, along with three children: Katie, Patrick, and William. He wed his wife Jennifer in 1967. In 2005, his wife served as Buckinghamshire's High Sheriff, and from 2006 to 2011, she served as the county's Vice Lord Lieutenant.
In honor of Hopkirk, a line of car accessories under the name Paddy Hopkirk is available. Since his early days in rallying, he had been involved in the automotive industry; by the early 1970s, he was importing Toyotas into Northern Ireland.
