Friday Okeneji, the presiding pastor of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Ona Iwa-Mimo, Iwaro Oka Akoko, in Ondo State, was found guilty of breaking into a chemical store without permission and stealing goods worth N130,000. The Chief Magistrate Court in Oke Eda in Akure, Ondo state, sentenced him to two years in prison.
The prosecution team had informed the court that the offence was committed on July 2, 2023, at Iwaro Oka Akoko by the defendant. The cleric appeared before the court and entered a plea of guilty to the two counts that were read to him.
He admitted that he did it with the intention of using the money made from the stolen products to pay for his mother’s impending funeral in August.
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni, who presided over the case and found Pastor Okeneji guilty, announced that the prison sentence would be served concurrently, with an alternative option of paying a fine of N100,000.
