Patrick Demarchelier was a prolific French photographer. He was born in Le Havre, France on August 21, 1943.
At the age of 17, he got a camera as a gift from his stepdad.
He started his career as an assistant photographer before he later got into the fashion industry.
When he was about 32 years, he opened a studio and he started gaining recognition abroad.
Demarchelier worked with America’s women’s fashion magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, and also Condé Nast.
He photographed models, celebrities, shot magazine covers, and did advertising photo shoots for fashion brands and designers like Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Celine, Yves Saint Laurent, H and M, Tommy Hilfiger, Chanel, Zara, Lacoste, Calvin Klein among others.
Patrick Demarchelier was the private photographer for Princess Diana and on record, he was the first-ever photographer who is not British to work for the British royal family.
The late fashion photographer who also made appearances in Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada died on March 31, 2022, at the age of 78.
