Pierre DuPont was an American businessman and philanthropist. He was born on January 15, 1870, in Wilmington, Delaware. He was the great-grandson of Eleuthère Irénée du Pont, who founded the DuPont Company.
Pierre DuPont married Alice Belin in 1915, and they had one child, Pierre Samuel du Pont, born in 1917. Pierre du Pont was well known for his contributions to the DuPont Company, where he served as president from 1915 to 1919 and chairman from 1919 until his retirement in 1940.
Pierre DuPont was also known for his philanthropic efforts, donating millions of dollars to institutions such as the Delaware Art Museum, the Longwood Gardens, and the Nemours Foundation.
He was also a major supporter of the agricultural industry, founding the Longwood Research Center, which studied plant pathology and genetics.
