Presidency Congratulates Burna Boy, Davido, Others On Their Grammy Nominations

Nigerian singers Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr have received congratulations from the President on their nominations for the 66th annual Grammy Awards.

Burna Boy was nominated four times, while Davido garnered three nominations on his debut.

The Afrobeats phenomenon Asake received one nomination, while renowned rapper Olamide and soprano Arya Starr each received one.

Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, responded by praising the Nigerian artists.

In a statement via Twitter (X) on Friday, Onanuga wrote; “Congratulations to Nigerian singers Davido, Burna Boy, Asake/Olamide, Ayra Starr for their nominations in the 66th Grammy Awards scheduled for Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.”

The South African singer Tyla and the Nigerian quintet were both nominated in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category, as was previously disclosed.

The nominees in the recently created category were “Amapiano” by Asake and Olamide, “City Boys” by Burna Boy, “Rush” by Ayra Starr, “Unavailable” by Davido and Musa Keys, and “Water” by Tyla.

Burna Boy’s other nominations include ‘Sitting On Top of the World’ with 21 Sav@ge in the Best Melodic Rap category. ‘I Told Them,’ his most recent album, was nominated for Best Global Music Record, and ‘Alone,’ for Best Global Music Performance.

Other nominees for Davido include ‘Timeless’ for Best Global Music Album and ‘Feel’ for Best Global Music Performance.

The 66th Grammy Awards will be held in Los Angeles, California, United States of America, next year.
