Qasem Soleimani was born on March 11, 1957, in the town of Qanat-e Malek in the Kerman Province of Iran. He came from a modest background and reportedly grew up in a farming family. Little is known about his early life, but he joined the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) shortly after the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

Soleimani rose through the ranks within the IRGC, and by the end of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq War, he had gained recognition for his military prowess. He became involved in the IRGC’s Quds Force, a unit specifically tasked with extraterritorial operations and clandestine activities.

Under Soleimani’s leadership, the Quds Force played a crucial role in advancing Iran’s influence in the Middle East. He was particularly involved in supporting Shiite militias and proxy groups in countries like Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon.

On January 3, 2020, Qasem Soleimani was killed in a targeted U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport.
