When Reese Witherspoon read Delia Owen’s 2018 success, Where the Crawdads Sing, she realized she needed to carry the story to the big screen.

“I read this original presumably in one day, perhaps two days, I just couldn’t put it down,” the entertainer and maker says in ET’s elite glance at the arrangement of the forthcoming show, which stars Normal People’sDaisy Edgar-Jones as Kya, the focal figure in the story.

Where the Crawdads Sing was first highlighted in Witherspoon’s namesake book club prior to being adjusted into a component movie by an all-female imaginative group, including chief Olivia Newman and screenwriter Lucy Alibar.

The book and film tell the story of Kya’s life as a young lady who grew up alone in the swamplands of North Carolina prior to being pushed into the spotlight in a close-by town after a neighborhood football star turns up dead close to her home.

“You truly couldn’t say whether she made it happen,” Witherspoon makes sense of the wild story. “She’s been so untouchable in the public arena, she’s been dealt with so ineffectively by individuals that it’s truly conceivable that she could have perpetrated this wrongdoing.”

“This film is such countless things,” adds Edgar-Jones, who involved her previous experience as a serious jumper for a portion of the film’s extremely submerged scenes.

“It’s a romantic tale, it’s an anecdote about nature, an anecdote about endurance. But at the same time, it’s a kind of court show, and there’s this huge spine-chiller perspective to the film.”

Supporting the film’s eerie topics is a unique new tune from Taylor Swift, named “Carolina,” which she composed explicitly for the end credits – – and has ignited buzz about the vocalist procuring her most memorable Oscar selection for Best Original Song.

“She was so enlivened by the book,” Witherspoon says of Swift’s commitment. “It’s frightful. It’s wonderful and it’s simply the ideal method for finishing the entire film.”

Where the Crawdads Sing is in theaters July 15.
