Affidavit claims that Mahomed ran Gold Leaf and Sahawi, two associated cigarette factories, which purportedly supplied cigarettes for which no VAT or excise duty was paid.
According to the allegations, Adamjee “managed the money made from the illegal cigarette sales.” Rudland, who is also accused of being engaged in the importation of Sahawi cigarettes, reportedly managed Mavambo and other accounts through which some of the money was purportedly laundered.
When the warrants were contested in the Supreme Court of Appeal, the investigation was rendered fruitless. In the end, the matter was formally dropped.
