SA actress has landed herself a role in the theatre production “I am Woman”.

The actress after so many years of appearing on television shows is grateful for so many years of longing for theatre play again she finally got it.

“I am Woman” atone to the 20,000 women who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria on August 9 1956 in protest against passing laws.

The play, directed by Palesa Mazamisa and written by Nthikeng Mohlele, unfolds from July 19 until August 14 It is advertised to be part of the women’s month celebrations.

The actor told Sowetan the part came at the right time when she wanted something to change her growth as an actress to a new height.

“I wanted this role so bad because I wanted to push myself to a new version of myself. I want to be looked at with brand new eyes by SA audiences. I felt like this one-woman show is a wonderful challenge.

“When my agency told me about the brief, I jumped at this opportunity. The challenge was to get the right monologue to impress the director.

I ended up choosing a high school monologue that would expose my vocal and emotional range and acting skills.

“Somehow I told myself that this role is mine. When I got the call from my agency that I have got the part, I punched the air many times in celebration,” she said.

Nevertheless, the experienced actress has theatre experience, this will be her first one-woman show. The actress is acquainted with how performing on stage for more than an hour will drive her to the limit but she is ready for such challenges.

“The script is long but it is a challenge that I am ready for. I am playing one role of Mmabatho that goes to different facets of her life.

“As the audience, you are introduced to this professional woman who works at the JSE. She goes through a lot and she tries to understand the woman that she is,” she said.
