A case has been reopened against Siyabonga Shibe for using a vehicle without the owner’s knowledge.

Bhar musician and businessman, whose real name is Sfiso Mshengu, opened a case against Siyabonga Shibe at Durban Central police station on Monday night for not returning the keys to his friend’s car.

Local police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo made known that the case has been opened and is been investigated.

According to the businessman Bhar, the issue began when he lent his seven-seater Toyota Rumion to Shibe to use more than three weeks ago. Bhar said the plan was that Shibe was going to use his car for a week and return it. He said after a week, Shibe refused to acknowledge the deal made between them until he decided to ask his tracking company to locate the car and tow it back to him.

When the car was returned, it had recorded 10,000km, had missed car servicing, and had dents and scratches on the back of the bumper.

“After a week, Siyabonga started being arrogant to me. I gave him this car out of trust. Whenever I asked him to return my car, he would arrogantly tell me that he will pay me. To me, it was not about the money because I know Siyabonga and we come from the same area. I gave him my car because he wanted my help.”

The singer had bought two cars to make a living and had planned to use the car at the Hollywoodbets Durban July.

“I wanted my car so bad last week because everyone was at the [Durban July] and people needed hired cars. I had to get the car back using a tracking company because I needed it for business. I started this business because I was hit hard by Covid-19.” he said.

Shibe was confronted for comments, he said he was shocked that Bhar has opened a case against him.

“I was not aware that there is an existing case opened against me. I told him I will give him back his car keys. I can’t believe that he opened a case already.

“I said I will give him his money. When I borrowed the car we did not have a deadline. I was supposed to have the car for the whole month. Even the payment did not have an expiry date.”

Bhar made a stand that it was not about the money but about keeping promises and returning the vehicle in its best condition.

Also, he was asked about the dents and scratches on the car, Shibe commented: “I am not the one who caused those dents and Bhar knows that. As a result, I gave him the contacts of the person who caused the dents.”
